JUNIOR LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Junior Lifeguard Training is a program that teaches water safety and the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard.  The program will cover the prevention of aquatic accidents, response in an emergency, fitness and swimming skills, leadership and professionalism skills, and more.  This program will build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills in preparation for the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course.  

This is not a lifeguard course and will not certify participants to be a lifeguard.

Junior Lifeguards, ages 13-15, are able to volunteer time and labor to receive volunteer hours.  To earn these hours the Junior Lifeguards will aid Lifeguards in opening/closing procedures and other duties and responsibilities of lifeguarding.

 

Course fee: $140

Participants must be between the ages of 10-15.

Each session is limited to 10 participants. 

 

To participate in Junior Lifeguard Training, the following skills must be demonstrated on the first day of the program:

Registration:

Open registration is being held at the JCP Aquatic Complex and Recreation Office.  Registration forms, payment, and proof of JCP CDD card holder status will be accepted in person upon registration.   Pre-payments are required.  Program fees are non-refundable.

Babysitter Training

Babysitter Training Course

The babysitter training course, from the American Red Cross, will teach you everything you will need to be a great babysitter.  As a Red Cross trained babysitter, you will gain confidence and valuable skills that will impress parents.  The Babysitter Training Course is designed to teach boys and girls ages 11-15 about the responsibilities of babysitting.  The course teaches infant and child (birth to age 8) CPR, accident prevention, diapering, feeding and emergency first aid.  Students will also learn how to choose age appropriate games and toys, and how to prepare for a job as a babysitter.  Students will receive babysitting training certification cards, which expire one year after issue.

Babysitter Boot Camp

A two-day adventure designed to teach boys and girls ages 11-15 about the responsibilities of a babysitter. Students will learn Adult, Child and Infant CPR and First Aid, babysitter skills and how to prepare for a job as a babysitter. 

Sessions may also include a special guest speaker from places like the Police and Fire Departments, Poison Control or Drug Education.  Upon successful completion of the training, students will receive certifications in Adult, Child and Infant CPR, First Aid and Babysitting.

Course fee $120

Session One April 23 & 25
Session Two Sept 20 & 21

CPR & First Aid Certification

CPR & First Aid Flyer

This American Red Cross certification course combines lectures, demonstrations and video with hands-on training and practice.  Participants in this course learn to recognize and respond to emergencies including shock, cardiac and breathing emergencies for adults, children and infants, heat and cold emergencies, sudden illness and poisonings.  Additionally, participants will learn first aid for everything from cuts and scrapes to muscle, bone and joint injuries.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive two certificates: Adult, Child, and Infant CPR (valid for one year), and First Aid Basics (valid for three years).

This course is open to participants ages 13 and older.

 

This program requires prepayment and preregistration.  All forms and payments will be accepted in person at the Julington Creek Aquatic Complex or Recreation Office. 

No refunds, credits or cancellations.  Space is limited to 10 participants. 

Classes are contingent upon meeting a minimum number of participants.

 

NOTE TO PARTICIPANTS:

We suggest that you wear comfortable clothing to the class, since you will be working on the floor. A 30 minute lunch break will be included.  It is recommended that participants bring their own lunch because participants will not be able to leave the teaching facility for lunch.

Camp Programs 

Camp programs are open to children 6 to 11 years old.

 

Summer Camp Adventure

Camp Adventure is returning to JCP this summer! 

There are 10 one-week sessions, June 16 to August 21, Monday-Friday each week. Hours are from 8:30am-4:00pm. 

Extended day hours, 4:00pm-5:30pm, will be available at an additional cost of $2.50 per half hour. 

Participation is limited to 35 children per session. 

 

Summer Camp Adventure Registration:

Open registration will begin March 24 at the JCP Recreation Office from 9:00am-5:00pm.

Kids Adventure Circuit Class

Fitness fun for kids!  This class will teach children about coordination, flexibility, teamwork, and relaxation.

This youth friendly class utilizes hurdles, medicine balls, core trainers, jump ropes, and agility ladders. Come ready for a challenging workout focusing on strength, balance, and flexibility.  We will cool off with water relay activites!!
