In the fall/winter months private and
semi-private lessons are available during
limited times.
Please call the aquatic office for availability. Private Lesson: $30/lesson; $210/package of eight Semi-Private: $45/lesson ($22.50/person); $315/package of eight ($157.50/person) Please note that we do not match semi-private lessons, you must come prepared with the two students that will attend the semi-private lesson(s). Group Level DescriptionsParent/Child (6 months – 36 months)This program is designed to orient young children, along with their parents, to the water and prepare them to learn to swim in the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim courses. Parents are required to be in the water with their children. They are taught to safely work with their child in the water, including how to support and hold their child in the water and how to prepare and encourage their child to participate fully and try the skills.Preschool Aquatics:
For children about ages 3 – 5. Designed
to orient preschool-age children to the
aquatic environment and to begin working
on basic aquatic skills such as enter
and exit the water, blow bubbles through
mouth and nose, go under water, bobbing,
front and back glides, retrieve
submerged objects and learn how to stay
safe in the water.
Children participating in the Group Levels 1-6 classes must be 3-years-old by the last day of the class. Level 1: Introduction to Water SkillsPurpose: to help students feel comfortable and safe in water. Skills taught include breath holding, front and back float, entering water independently, introduction to flutter kicking, swim on front and back using arm and leg actions. Students with water experience may move through this level quickly.Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic SkillsChildren should already be able to: float on front and back and put head under water.Purpose: to give students fundamental and self-propulsion skills. Skills taught include unsupported front and back glide, front crawl coordination with breathing, beginning back crawl arm action. Level 3: Stroke DevelopmentChildren should already be able to: swim front and back crawl.Purpose: to build on and practice Level 2 skills. Skills taught include coordinating front crawl and back crawl, introduction to elementary backstroke, introduction to treading, retrieving objects, and introduction to diving. Level 4: Stroke ImprovementChildren should already be able to: swim front and back crawl 10 yards, elementary backstroke, and dive in kneeling and compact position.Purpose: to develop confidence and endurance in the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and existing skills. Skills taught include standing dive, deep-water skills, introduction to breast stroke, sidestroke, treading water (scissors kick, rotary kick). Level 5: Stroke RefinementChildren should already be able to: swim front and back crawl 25 yards, elementary backstroke 10 yards, scissors kick, whip kick, treading water, and diving.Purpose: to coordinate and refine the key strokes. Skills taught include underwater swimming, diving from block, breast stroke, sidestroke, introduction to butterfly and dolphin kick, feet-first surface dive, open turns. Level 6: Swimming and Skill ProficiencyChildren should already be able to: swim front and back crawl 50 yards, elementary backstroke 25 yards, breaststroke 25 yards, butterfly 25 yards, sidestroke 10 yards, tread water for 3 minutes, and dive.Purpose: to refine strokes so students may swim with ease, efficiency, and endurance. Skills taught include approach strokes, coordinating butterfly stroke and kick, introduction to breast stroke pullout, front crawl flip turn, head-first surface dives. |
