Group Level Descriptions

Parent/Child (6 months – 36 months)

This program is designed to orient young children, along with their parents, to the water and prepare them to learn to swim in the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim courses. Parents are required to be in the water with their children. They are taught to safely work with their child in the water, including how to support and hold their child in the water and how to prepare and encourage their child to participate fully and try the skills.

Preschool Aquatics:

For children about ages 3 – 5. Designed to orient preschool-age children to the aquatic environment and to begin working on basic aquatic skills such as enter and exit the water, blow bubbles through mouth and nose, go under water, bobbing, front and back glides, retrieve submerged objects and learn how to stay safe in the water.

American Red Cross offers six comprehensive course levels that help swimmers of all ages and varying abilities develop their swimming and water safety skills.

The prerequisite for each level is the successful demonstration of the skills from the preceding level.
