
The newly revised American Red Cross Lifeguard
Course will teach candidates the knowledge and skills needed to
prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content
and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond
quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and
injuries. This course includes Lifeguard Training, First Aid,
and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
Participants must meet all prerequisites, and pass the skills test and written exam in order to be certified.

| Course Fee *The course fee does not include the lifeguard manual. JCPCDD will provide a classroom set of books, however these are property of JCPCDD. Students are able to purchase a new manual from the JCPCDD at the rate from the Red Cross ($32) or access an electronic, printable copy from the Red Cross website. |

Prerequisites
- Must be a minimum of 15 years old by the last day of class.
- Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing, using freestyle and/or breaststroke.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs.
- Swim 20 yards, surface dive to a minimum depth of 7 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to surface, and swim back to starting point with object within one minute and forty seconds.
Refunds are only available if the class is cancelled due to low
enrollment.
A refund will not be issued if a participant fails the swim test
or misses the first day of class.
JCPCDD does not guarantee employment to participants that pass
the course.
Classes may be let out early, please be prepared to have a ride
home at anytime.
